A seam defect is not a matter of opinion. It is physical evidence. The stitch records the tension balance, the broken thread end records how the thread was loaded, and the needle hole records what the needle did to the fabric. Read in the right order, a failed seam tells you where it came from.
LN 026 teaches that order: document, diagnose, correct. Secure the evidence before anything is re-adjusted — a machine that has already been re-set has destroyed the cause. Read the seam under magnification and narrow the field by exclusion rather than by intuition. Then change one parameter, verify it on a defined test seam, and record what happened, including the changes that did nothing: a change without effect rules a cause out.
What you take away is usable the same week. Four questions you can ask on the telephone, before anyone travels, that eliminate most wrong hypotheses. A one-page record that turns a site visit into a case a colleague can still reconstruct three weeks later. A correction sequence that starts with the cheapest and most reversible step instead of the most drastic one.
And one judgement that works in both directions. In eleven of the thirteen defect patterns the thread is at most a contributing factor, and in two it plays no normal role at all. Being able to demonstrate that — calmly, with the evidence visible — is what makes an AMANN recommendation believed on the day the thread genuinely is the answer.
