3.  Tool-by-Tool Reference

1  ·  AMANN Ticket Card Set

The Ticket Cards are the bridge between AMANN’s article system and the customer’s order language. With them, the representative can demonstrate ticket sizes, raw material families and constructions side by side, match a competitor sample to the corresponding AMANN article, and leave a tangible reference at the customer’s desk. Always keep a fresh stack — never hand over the last one.

2  ·  AMANN Product Range Brochure

The brochure is the official portfolio in the customer’s hand. It transforms a verbal recommendation into a structured, documented proposition. Use it to guide the customer through application segments, certifications (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, OEKO-TEX®, GRS) and the breadth of the Sewing Technology Centers. It is also the most professional answer to “Send me something to look at.”

3  ·  AMANN Stitch Density Ruler (20 cm)

The 20 cm ruler with integrated stitches-per-centimetre gauge (2–8 SPC) is the most underestimated tool in the kit. Stitch density directly drives thread consumption, seam strength, puckering risk and embroidery quality. Being able to measure it on the spot — in the customer’s own product — moves the discussion from opinion to fact.

4  ·  AMANN Tape Measure (150 cm)

A flexible 150 cm tape allows quick verification of garment dimensions, seam lengths and thread consumption assumptions. It is essential when discussing thread potential values per unit, calculating cost-per-garment or validating sample specifications against production reality.

5  ·  Linen Tester (Pick Glass)

The folding magnifier with integrated measuring window is the single most powerful diagnostic tool in the box. It reveals stitch formation, thread ply, twist direction, needle damage, abrasion and weave density at the level of detail the customer rarely sees themselves. When the representative places the linen tester on a seam and explains what they see, the conversation immediately shifts from sales to expertise.

6  ·  Precision Scissors

Sharp, fine-pointed scissors are required for taking clean samples without distorting the structure of yarn or fabric. Cutting a sample with the right tool — instead of borrowing a cutter from production — communicates respect for the customer’s product and craftsmanship.

7  ·  Seam Ripper

The seam ripper allows a controlled, non-destructive opening of approximately 10 cm of seam — the standard length for thread analysis. This is one of the core techniques from the AMANN Technical Sales Training: unpicking a seam in order to identify construction, ply, ticket size and finishing. Never tear a seam by hand in front of a customer.

8  ·  Awl / Stiletto

The awl is used to separate yarn plies, lift stitches, probe material thickness and prepare samples for inspection under the linen tester. It is the small but critical tool that distinguishes a textile professional from a generalist visitor.

9  ·  Curved Tweezers

Curved tweezers reach into multi-layer seams, embroidery backings and tight constructions where straight tools cannot operate without damaging the material. Indispensable for technical textiles, automotive seams, PPE and footwear applications.

10  ·  Straight Fine Tweezers

Used for picking single filaments, isolating fibres for burn-test sampling, and separating untwisted yarn components. The combination of straight and curved tweezers covers the full range of field inspection situations.

11  ·  Pocket Lighter

The lighter enables the burn test — the simplest and most reliable on-site method to distinguish polyester (PES), polyamide (PA, Nylon) and cotton, including the typical hybrid constructions found in core-spun threads. The burn test is part of the official AMANN Technical Sales Training methodology and must be performed safely: short flame, small sample, controlled environment, always with the customer’s consent.

The compact zipped case keeps the toolbox organised, transportable and presentable. A representative who opens a structured, branded kit on the customer’s table sends a clear message: AMANN arrives prepared.

4.  Five Standard Field Routines

These are the recurring customer situations every AMANN representative must master with this toolbox. Each routine combines specific tools from the kit into a repeatable, professional sequence.

1	Raw Material Identification	Unpick a short seam (seam ripper) → isolate a yarn (tweezers) → perform a controlled burn test (lighter) → identify PES, PA or natural fibre → match to the AMANN article via Ticket Card.
2	Stitch Density & Seam Analysis	Place the AMANN ruler on the seam → count stitches per centimetre → inspect stitch formation through the linen tester → derive recommendations on thread size, needle size and machine settings.
3	Thread Extraction & Ticket-Size Matching	Open 10 cm of seam (seam ripper) → untwist the thread (tweezers + awl) → determine construction and ply → identify the equivalent AMANN article in the brochure or Ticket Card system.
4	Damage & Complaint Pre-Assessment	Inspect the failure pattern under the linen tester — needle damage, abrasion, seam slippage, puckering, down penetration, water leakage — and provide an initial qualified opinion, with clear escalation to TAS for laboratory analysis when required.
5	Product Range Presentation	Use the brochure together with the Ticket Cards to walk the customer through the relevant application segment, supported by physical thread samples where available.

5.  Carrying, Care and Field Readiness

The toolbox is a working instrument, not a giveaway. Each representative is responsible for keeping the kit complete, clean and customer-ready at all times.

Standard Care Routine

• Check completeness before every customer visit.
• Keep cutting and probing tools sharp, clean and rust-free.
• Replenish Ticket Cards and brochures from local marketing stock.
• Replace the lighter regularly and respect local safety regulations, especially when travelling by air.
• Store the case in a way that protects optics (linen tester) and printed materials from deformation.

A toolbox that is incomplete, dirty or disorganised undermines every technical argument made with it.
