Weaving the Future: A New Blueprint for Europe’s Textile Industry
Concept MOON is a strategic impulse program for the European textile and fiber-based industries, developed against the backdrop of the European Green Deal, digitalization and sustainability.
Based on a broad screening of current literature, more than 100 expert interviews and an in-depth analysis of international R&D and funding landscapes, MOON maps where the textile value chain stands today – and where it must evolve to remain viable.
Rather than chasing the next big “disruption”, it focuses on realistic, actionable transformation along the entire value stream – from fiber to finished product – guided by the principles avoid & reduce, recycle & reuse, repair & repurpose.
The MOON study, funded by the Hans A. Pielenz Foundation (Pielenz-Stiftung), offers companies a concrete toolbox and workshop format to define their strategic launchpad for the future.
It is designed to support firms in navigating four intertwined transformation arenas: Globalization 2.0 (repositioning in regional and global value networks), Digitalization (from processes to business models), Decarbonization (CO₂-efficient, circular value chains) and Industrialization 6.0 (future-ready industrial structures that balance economic, ecological and social goals).
By shifting the perspective from regulation-driven risk to innovation-driven opportunity, Concept MOON enables textile companies to actively shape – rather than merely endure – the next chapter of their industry.
